Note B.

The sum of £3,000 provided under this head for cartographic work is not likely to be required in full.

The anticipated excess is due to the abnormal amount of telegraphing which was required immediately before and after the commencement of the var. The amount of telegraphing is still considerably higher than usual, but instructions have been issued to restrict the use of telegrams to the minimum essential to the efficient conduct of business. It is regretted that it is not possible to give a firm estimate of the amount of the

This expenditure has now been charged to the Ministry of Information Vote.

Seo covering letter.

Certain casual savings are anticipated.

This saving is chiefly due to the postponement of the construction of the Beisan married quarters (£8,000) and to the over-issue of the previous year's grant-in-aid (£9,000), offset by net excesses (£2,000),

This excess is chiefly due to the coat of security measures and the mobilisation of Arab Legion Reservists, offset by general savings of £20,000 and specific savings of £12,500.

The expenditure on this service is now estimated at £4,000 and a saving of £7,000 should therefore be secured.
